I am a software consultant living in Nurmijärvi, Finland.
My core competency is in algorithm design. In particular, I am quite well-read when it comes to algorithm literature, so I can identify a problem quickly and find the applicable algorithm in literature -- or alternatively just tell you where the hard parts are, or whether you're just simply hosed from the theory perspective to begin with in whatever you're trying to do.
As far as programming languages go, I am (very) fluent in Java, C and Python. I can get around with C++, and my hobbyist hacking currently happens in Common Lisp, which I particularly love. I have had exposure to dozens of languages, and can probably live with whatever you have at hand. I use Linux as my platform and do not really know anything about Windows or anything from Microsoft by that matter.
My biggest achievement so far has been the implementation of the entire system of the biggest sports betting team in Finland, consisting of the web application and server-side tools to maintain the client registry and bookkeeping, to the analysis toolkit, which actually does the full Kelly-analysis of a highly combinatorial game that I am not aware anyone else is capable of doing at the moment, anywhere.
That said, I am interested in optimization problems, games, and maximizing expectancy of profit. When I am not involved in a software project, I mostly trade derivatives on the stock market. I have dabbled in writing trading robots, but have eventually discovered that my own gut feeling is far better than any automatic trading-bot.
